IconProcess and You The IconProcess The Making of IconATG

The Team Story

Can a best practices methodology improve already good web development?
IconATG's rich history of award-winning web site design supported their hypothesis that it can, thus inspiring creation of the IconProcess.

Why create a process?

With phenomenal company growth and acquisitions over the past few years, we at IconATG knew that we needed to improve performance and increase our ability to work as an integrated, global company. Given the vast array of languages, cultures, countries, competencies, and professional backgrounds within the company, this was a real challenge. Success with large, global projects means that labs from different countries must all work together. At that point in time, we did meet this goal, but we knew we could do even better. We realized that using a consistent process, a common vocabulary, and a shared roadmap from project start to launch would increase effectiveness, allowing us to focus more on our clients and less on project infrastructure.
This was the inspiration for the IconProcess.

How is this done?

Because this integrated process needed an integrated team, IconATG's global chief competency officers appointed a few leading practitioners to a formal IconProcess Development Team. The process team includes additional, specialized experts from offices around the world who provide input and feedback. The process team and the specialized experts all regularly work on client engagements, so practicality and flexibility within a reusable structure is at the forefront of their minds.

The cross-discipline team mines IconATG's most successful projects, to identify and codify best practices and lessons learned. From there, the IconProcess team refines, and integrates processes successfully applied on real projects, so that all of us can repeat these successful methods within our own projects.

With advice from Rational Software Corporation's renowned Dr. Ivar Jacobson and feedback from practitioners around the world, the IconProcess team is developing and continually refining the IconProcess — a milestone in e-development.
